Back with Bringing Down the Sky

Like Zero, I was away myself for a while. The main reason was my MS thesis that I had to complete. Now that its done and I am ready to graduate, I thought that I should write a post about downloadable content for Mass Effect called Bringing Down The Sky. You have to pay 400 Microsoft points to download this content. What it does is that, it adds a small storyline about a militant alien race, Batarians who are trying to crash an asteroid into a planet. We need to stop them and here again, we can do our job in many ways as with all other tasks. But this time around the side quests along with the main mission make better sense and the mission is not bad itself as we need to make tough choices.

If you have not yet bought Mass Effect for xbox 360, I will suggest to wait and get the PC release of the game as it will include this downloadable content and much better UI for playing the game.

As for the xbox guys only get this content if you loved the original mass effect and want more of it. Oh, btw, this content will only be available to be played if you have not finished the final mission and still pick missions from all over the galaxy, i.e., you are a specte, which also means that if you are starting a new game, you will need to play through a good 30 mins to unlock this content. The content will give you a solid 2 hours of extra playtime.

Mass Effect, Played, Dissected and Loved

Role playing games have a couple of varieties. There are Japanese RPGs, where there are tons of menus and all combat is turned based (Final Fantasy, Lost Odyssey, etc) or there are the hack and slash category where you play in real time and improve your character (Diablo, Dungeon Siege, Titan Quest etc). But then there is the open ended category which has so recently been introduced by the titles like The Witcher, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and S.T.A.L.K.E.R, which gives you an open environment to go to and develop your character as you want.

Then there is the 4th category introduced by Bioware in the shape of Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic (KOTOR), Jade Empire and now Mass Effect. The beauty of these type of games is that, the entire story continues in a cinematic way. You have a lot of say in all the dialogs and whatever you do changes the entire story and your character. I had been waiting to get my hands on Mass Effect and ever since I have bought it, I cant stop playing it.
