Overheated Hard drive fix: Freeze that Hard drive!
My hard drive is 7 years old and I am still using it today, albeit as a back to my newer master hard drives. I have experienced some issue like overheated hard drive when I used it for longer spans as my main hard drive. This is a common problem faced by many a power user like me. Gamerpk now running Wordpress 2.5.1 under the hood
After a failed attempt, thanks to some buggy plugins, I have finally managed to upgrade the CMS that is running this blog of ours. From Wordpress 2.3.3 we are now running Wordpress 2.5.1. The process is fairly simple but needs some (in fact a lot of) improvisation. The upgrade guide on Wordpress Codex is well detailed.
I needed to backup a few tables and databases, disable plugins, delete a few folders because I could as I had root access
and then just upgrade the older version. I had to save my configurations too, and if you have some experience with Wordpress, you know what I am talking about.
Anyhoo, so thats that, upgrading plugins and maintaining other stuff much much easier. Hope I can further improve the layout. Adios for now.
Anonymous surfing of blocked websites by proxy tunneling
In the recent times there has been a lot of complain from the daily internet user about how painfully irritating firewalls and word-censorship becomes. Mostly networks that do not cater to people who have freedom to view ‘everything’ online install firewalls and web-blocks in order to curtail web traffic. But now there is an answer to all this!
There are two good methods to access such websites. Firstly, search for the blocked website on Google or Yahoo! or for that matter any search engine that supports Cached Pages. For example had blog.gamerpk been blocked, you would type out
blog.gamerpk.com in the search field and hit search. Below the list of search result links, there will be a link for a Cached version of the page, click that link to access it’s older (cached version). The second method is simpler and gets you to the current state of the page. Below are the list of various sites from which you can surf the blocked websites!
