WC3L Season XIV Update

Posted by Rafey on October 2nd, 2008

WC3L LogoWarcraft’s most prestigious league, the WC3L, is heading towards the end of its current season. With a total of 11 playdays*, playday 10 is set to commence today with WE squaring off against SK.

When the season started, anyone could tell that by the end MYM, mTw, SK, fnatic and WE would be leading the pack. Infact, the competition between these 5 teams is so tight that only 3 points currently separate 1st place (MYM) from the 5th (mTw).

Why video games are still selling like hot cakes! [Game Dev]

Posted by zEro on April 29th, 2008

Much to the surprise of this afflicted world, the videogames industry is still surging forward with players taking a decision to go into full nelson production. New York Times, a very credible journal, does a story why even in a plethora of negative economic indicators, the gaming industry is still having a “banner year”, and will still go on to have a great year. Games like GTA 4 are not only extremely satisfying experiences, they are way of escapism and joy for people who toil all day at jobs and office. The article goes to say that gamer, or people, are more like to buy “eggs, milk and videogames with their last $50.”

I however disagree with anyone who uses the word addiction to describe what might just be a very simple way of find a non-hallucinating escape from life!

As a videogames evangelist, I think the potential of this industry is still unrealized in most parts of the world. Not only as a highly lucrative economy but as a tool to aid social development in fields like medicine, education, public service and governance.

GTA, GTA, GTA!

Posted by zEro on April 27th, 2008

GTA is everywhere. Grand Theft Auto 4 has to be the most anticipated game at the moment. About a week away from release, this game has already doing lots of rounds in the media and stirring up it’s own pre-release hype and paranoia. Here is a list of articles that are rapidly being shared on social bookmarking websites:

  • The Variety.com runs a short story about how the critics have already started decrying the violence in the game. While the violence in the game sells to a targeted market, there is choice people have and it is there’s to make. No one is forcing the game down their throats.
  • IGN.com reviewed the game for us, and has given it an astounding 10/10. Read the review here.
  • I don’t really know who does this, but almost all of the time a major game is about to be released, there happens to be a major leak of the game into black market. BlooDLusT shared with us a link that mentioned one such online leak, last week. A publicity stunt? May-be…

The is due to be released on April 29th of this year, on PS3 and XBox360, and after a not so popular San Andreas, it is hoped that this game, a recreation of the darker Manhattan, is worth it’s salt. The game will feature multiplay-ability over online services like Microsoft’s XBoxLive. Saddly, this service is unavailable in Pakistan.

A List of Gaming Servers in Pakistan

Posted by zEro on March 19th, 2008

For obvious reasons, most Gaming Servers can only be hosted when they are hosting games that allow a number of people to participate. Then it makes sense. Hence most gaming servers in Pakistan are based around first person shooters that create a virtual arena for multiple gamers to play simultaneously.

king_huzi at WCCFTech forums shares with us a detailed list of gaming servers hosted by different ISPs, that he has complied, from all over Pakistan.

MGS Creator Kojima say ‘No more’ to MGS series

Posted by zEro on March 15th, 2008

One of the most played and appreciated third person stealth role playing games in console history, Metal Gear Solid’s (MGS) creator Kojima has announced to put a halt to developing MGS titles after the latest/upcoming installment of MGS.

MGS storyline was also coming to end as the star character Solid Snake was aging and his role in the game was diminishing in front of the newer more faster characters that were appearing.

Gaming Today had this to add,

It’ll be until after Metal Gear Solid 4 and Metal Gear Online both have had their time in the spotlight before Kojima’s intentions are revealed. It’s hard to really take a guess at what sort of game Kojima might be doing, because between Metal Gear, Zone of the Enders and Boktai/Lunar Knights, he has quite a varied resume.

This might be a sad moment for thousands of MGS fans in Pakistan.

Halo 3: Bungie Helps Restore Some Emotion for a Gamer

Posted by zEro on March 9th, 2008

A very interesting story posted by bs angle on Hawty McBloggy Invites You Play about how a gamer sent in his XBox for repair and when it came back it had all emotions of his wiped off.

It so happened that a Halo 3 gamer Nathenial had collected a lot of artwork and signature from around the gaming community on his XBox but on sad day it broke. Now he had to send it in for repairs and asked the support on the phone not to wipe off the various signatures and autographs that he had collected.

Unfortunately this thing was not communicated back to the repair department who in the end completely serviced the XBox and it was returned clean as a whistle. This story got posted the same day this happened and in return Bungie decided to send him some Halo 3 stuff that Microsoft apparently owes the kid.

Head on to the blog post to look at some of the really cool stuff that he got! Cool people at Bungie…

Posted by zEro on March 8th, 2008

fifa_international_soccer.gifWhile advertisements have become a boon for the internet community over the years, the fact they have been realized as a method of self sustaining projects is taking roots fast. Even in the gaming industry producers and developers are trying to harness sponsorship and advertisement money to reduce tariffs and improve on their products.

When the internet was taking over the world, things like pop ups and flashy ads were becoming an eye-sore for the user, yet a method to earn big bucks for websites. Soon it became known that bad website or product design didn’t take care of user friendliness and how the advertisements appeared.

Competitive gaming is taking hold in communities as a form of a spectator sport very fast. In Korea it already is an big sponsorship money is thrown into tournaments and onto players, because people like them, and it makes marketing sense.
