Impressive Nvidia Tegra Notebook Review [Video]
Nvidia is aiming to release it’s own set of netbooks and they were up on display on Computex 2009 before officially going on sale. These netbooks can play 720p videos right off the internet for up to 4 to 5 hours. The Tegra notebook will be capable of using Nvidia gpu to render faster off the internet, but will have 512 mb RAM standard in all machines. The standard browser will be Firefox 3.5 and the buyer will have the option of having Android or Windows CE or dual both as a build option.
This interview features Gordon Grigor Director of Mobile Software at Nvidia (the software engineering lead in developing the Tegra solution!) Check out this awesome video interview right after the jump:
The New Apple MacBook is not clicking: It has issues!
As heretic as that may sound, lately I have been evangelizing the use of laptops, and have converted a few of my friends but not for gaming.
The hottest $h1t in the laptop market are Apple’s New Macbooks that have just come out a few weeks ago. But they are not without with their share of problems and issues.
As CrunchGear reports, Apple Macbooks are experiencing touch pad click failure 60% of the time! That is almost 50% of the clicks you make. It’s frustating enough because the touchpad does not have buttons and as a design tradition at Apple, the right click we have in PCs, they use the Command (?) button + mouse-click.
An official thread open at Apple’s Discussion forums discusses this very problem, and people are speculating what the problem might be.
Anyone else experiencing this same problem, if they got the New Macbook?

AMD Game Aimed To Help Gamers Achieve Peak Performance
AMD has recently launched a new program called AMD Game that will address the issues faced today by gamers who want to achieve immaculate performance form their machines.
AMD’s Game program aims to break down the key components and hardwares from the company to allow the gamer to achieve better performance and better frame-rates on higher resolutions while playing games.
Although a brilliant marketing campaign, the need of such services was way over-due. AMD Game and AMD Game Ultra will provide two tiers of gaming system specs that will cater to different budgets and tastes.
AMD Game has been extensively discussed over at Ars Technica, read the entire article there.
I Spy With My Little iSight!
A few days ago I did a story on how personal privacy and safety were being debated in the computer industry and just today I read an interesting piece on how the iSight for the MacBook actually helped someone recover their stolen laptop.
Before I go any further, I think the iSight coupled with the Back To My Mac remote computing software for MacBooks can be a perfect spy tool.
Anyways, so to cut a long story short, a woman who had her MacBook stolen logged into her Back To My Mac application and activated her iSight camera. She got what she wanted! The thief in the camera. The thieves were caught and the woman who wishes to remain nameless got her laptop back.
And in other news, the first Gear of War 2 footage is here.
Back with Bringing Down the Sky
Like Zero, I was away myself for a while. The main reason was my MS thesis that I had to complete. Now that its done and I am ready to graduate, I thought that I should write a post about downloadable content for Mass Effect called Bringing Down The Sky. You have to pay 400 Microsoft points to download this content. What it does is that, it adds a small storyline about a militant alien race, Batarians who are trying to crash an asteroid into a planet. We need to stop them and here again, we can do our job in many ways as with all other tasks. But this time around the side quests along with the main mission make better sense and the mission is not bad itself as we need to make tough choices.
If you have not yet bought Mass Effect for xbox 360, I will suggest to wait and get the PC release of the game as it will include this downloadable content and much better UI for playing the game.
As for the xbox guys only get this content if you loved the original mass effect and want more of it. Oh, btw, this content will only be available to be played if you have not finished the final mission and still pick missions from all over the galaxy, i.e., you are a specte, which also means that if you are starting a new game, you will need to play through a good 30 mins to unlock this content. The content will give you a solid 2 hours of extra playtime.
Intel Slashes Chip Prices
gamerpk learns from CNet that Intel has cut prices on most of their chipsets where the Core 2 Quad Q6700 (2.66 GHz) saw a 50% cut in the prices from $530 to $266. Intel has also announced two new chipsets; The E8300 (6MB cache, 2.83GHz) and the E7200 (3MB cache, 2.53GHz) at $163 and and $133, respectively. This comes when the manufacturer saw that it might start losing some of it’s market share to the equally competitive AMD/ATI. A good news for gamers like me who are snooping around for deals to construct a new rig.

“You just click on it and play it.” WTF?!
Epic’s Cliff Bleszinski claims that PC gaming is in a “disarray”, and hence a reason good enough to move away from it and concentrate on making XBox titles. In an article on Filefront, Cliff says,
“I think people would rather make a game that sells 4.5 million copies than a million and “Gears” is at 4.5 million right now on the 360. I think the PC is just in disarray… what’s driving the PC right now is ‘Sims’-type games and ‘WoW‘ and a lot of stuff that’s in a web-based interface. You just click on it and play it. That’s the direction PC is evolving into so for me, the PC is kind of the secondary part of what we’re doing. It’s important for us, but right now making AAA games on consoles is where we’re at.”
