WCG Pakistan finally announced!

Posted by Rafey on September 29th, 2008

While the national qualifiers for World Cyber Games 2008 have already been completed in most countries over the world,  they just started here in Pakistan. After much confusion over the past few weeks regarding this year’s WCG, Wateen Telecom finally announced last week that it will be organising the qualifiers in Pakistan. Winners will get a chance to represent Pakistan at the WCG grand finals to be held in Cologne, Germany later this year.

Regional qualifiers were conducted at certain gaming cafes in 8 cities over the last week. The six titles that the organisers included are:

  • Counter-Strike 1.6
  • Warcraft III
  • Command & Conquer 3
  • FIFA ‘08
  • Dota (Pakistan only)
  • CoD 4 (Pakistan only)

According to Wateen the national finals will be held in Lahore on the 6-7th of October, where the winners of the regional qualifiers will compete against each other.

More information regarding dates and venues can be found at games.wateen.com/wcg. If you want to find out more about the WCG grand final itself, visit www.worldcybergames.com.

This year’s edition of WCG Pakistan has received heavy criticism because it was poorly publicised and is being held way too late. Other than that, the dates for the national final in Lahore were recently changed and the venue still hasn’t been decided! These are things that should be taken care of before the event is announced so that participants can plan ahead. Some people are even speculating that the winners might not be able to attend the grand final because there won’t be enough time for visas to be issued. For now we can just hope that everything goes as planned and not too many gamers are disappointed.

For obvious reasons, most Gaming Servers can only be hosted when they are hosting games that allow a number of people to participate. Then it makes sense. Hence most gaming servers in Pakistan are based around first person shooters that create a virtual arena for multiple gamers to play simultaneously.

king_huzi at WCCFTech forums shares with us a detailed list of gaming servers hosted by different ISPs, that he has complied, from all over Pakistan.

Massively Multiplayer Call Of Duty in the pipeline ?!

Posted by atof on March 5th, 2008

It seems that Activision wants to compete in the Million Dollar Market of MMO’s such as Warcraft! And the game that they want to explore is the Game of the Year: Call Of Duty! Read on for more from Kotaku:

“The head cheese at Activision, Bobby Kotick, recently made headlines for his assertion that, in order to compete properly with World of Warcraft, publishers may need to invest nearly a billion dollars in such a venture. Fortunately for Kotick and crew, they now have access to the big brains at Blizzard and Vivendi, a group of folks who know quite a bit about the MMO business. How then, can Activision exploit its biggest earners into even bigger financial monsters?

cod4.jpgThe gaming scene in Pakistan is growing by leaps and bounds, and people are getting more and more interested in Multiplayer gaming, along with the single player campaign missions. And supporting these gamers (like me :D) are a few Broadband ISP’s like Micronet, Wordcall etc that are providing a heaven for Pakistani gamers, who have played long enough with high pings on International servers.

Micronet Broadband Limited, is one of those service providers, who have helped us gamers with local Multiplayer Servers for all to enjoy. And adding to these servers is the new Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Server, recently made official by MBL.
