I Spy With My Little iSight!
A few days ago I did a story on how personal privacy and safety were being debated in the computer industry and just today I read an interesting piece on how the iSight for the MacBook actually helped someone recover their stolen laptop.
Before I go any further, I think the iSight coupled with the Back To My Mac remote computing software for MacBooks can be a perfect spy tool.
Anyways, so to cut a long story short, a woman who had her MacBook stolen logged into her Back To My Mac application and activated her iSight camera. She got what she wanted! The thief in the camera. The thieves were caught and the woman who wishes to remain nameless got her laptop back.
And in other news, the first Gear of War 2 footage is here.
HD Camcorder for $169 [Bargain]
About two years ago I bought a camcorder that had a flip open 2.5 inch LCD display, mp3 player, USB 2.0 ports, 3 mega pixel still image capture, and few other features. But it wasn’t a High Definition camera, and didn’t really had a good frame rate even at 800 x 600.
This cheap HD Camcorder, DXG-569G, by DXG has a 30 fps rate on 1200 x 700 pixels and is only for $169 dollars. The one I bought 2 years ago was good for it’s price then, at $149. Here is what Engadget had to say:
While DXG has few aspirations to taste or quality, they sure know how to price this stuff. The new DXG-569V HD cam can shoot 1280 x 720 video at 30 fps, captures 5 megapixel stills and sports a 3-inch foldout LCD, all for the bargain basement price of $169. Naturally, that video quality probably won’t be putting RED ONE out of a job, and you’ll need to supply your own SD card to make the magic happen, but if that doesn’t dissuade you, you can swipe one from a Radio Shack shelf in silver or black as of today.
I would recommend this, other cameras of this kind to anyone who is looking for a cheap, quick fix, HD recording mechanism with has good portability and is light. What you do need to look into is what memory types it supports (SD Flash cards in this case), whether it has a tripod screw, and what kind of video outlets it offers. Night vision is a plus, but I don’t expect it to be that marvelous considering it’s cramped up chip for smaller size.
Even then, it’s a really good bargain. Rs. 12,000 @ Rs. 70/Dollar.

Apple’s iPhone SDK now available
Apple recently announced the release of it’s Software Development Kit for the iPhone which will potentially open the flood gates of third party software on the gadget. The iPhone would then have a lot more functions making using of all or most of it’s features.
Not only simple organization and communication software would be developed, games are also planned for the iPhone and the first one to announce their iPhone version were the producers behind the under work title, ‘Spore,’ and Touch Fighter. Electronic Arts has announced that a number of titles are in the pipeline and work on some have already been started.
The iPhone sold like hot cakes when it first came out, yet there was a little disappointment that it didn’t really live up to the hype. But still people bought more. And today with this SDK out they can expect a lot more softwares for them to use.

Sony PSP gets a new chair

Sony aiming to capture a huge chunk of the consumer electronics market recently announced a deal with Samsung for LCDs, and with the BluRay winning over HD-DVD, they have announced yet another PSP add-on that will help it connect with other such products. PSP Cradle will allow the PSP to dock and connect with a TV and display images directly from the PSP. It’s just like hooking up you iPod to your laptop, etc. You get the point. PSP owners can get theirs when it releases in Japan on the 24th April. And yes, it comes with a remote too.

Relax while Fragging!
When you spend more time at your computer than Big Bird spends in Sesame Street, you’re going to need to be comfortable. The Nex-Sys Corner V1 Desk tries to address the issue. You may mistake the luxury sit-up for another rock band peripheral kit, but don’t be fooled. The Corner V1 has support for 2.1 speakers, height adjustable flat screen monitor and comes with a custom car seat to suit your disposition on the day you spend 1700-freaking-dollars on a desk and chair.

Sure, it is available in a range of colors, is completely hand-crafted and offers levels of comfort you last experienced in your mother’s womb, but $1700? It seems a little steep for a desk and chair set only the 40-year old virgin would ever own. Mind you, as our lives are going that way anyhow, we might as well be cozy getting there.
