Masters of Paris: Quake 3 Invitational [ESWC]

Posted by zEro on May 7th, 2008

ESWC LogoElectronic Sports World Cup (ESWC) is paying homage to one of the great games that has been played on the competitive arena by sending an invitation to nearly 30 odd pro-Quake 3 gamers from around the world to participate in against each other and earn a berth in the upcoming ESWC tournament in Paris, France. The grand final will be attended by 3 of these 16 invited players who have not qualified through National Qualifiers. SK-Gaming has more,

The event will have sixteen international invitees and the top four French players from ESWC France. The three best players that have not qualified through national qualifiers will win berths to the ESWC Grand Final in San Jose.

The list includes the world’s top Quake 4 players that the fans haven’t had the time to forget, several unknowns and a few interesting “comeback names.” The major names missing are Johan “Toxic” Quick, Anton “Cooller” Singov and Paul “czm” Nelson.

Some of the names in the list have already retired or gone into hibernation or been playing Quake 4. It would be interesting to see some of the former best players of Quake 3 play this game once again in the ESWC Masters Of Paris. A small but passionate community of Quake 3 player still exists in Pakistan today. However, gone are the days when this game ruled the roost.

Giants Fall: SK and MYM Defeated

Posted by zEro on March 17th, 2008

Quite surprisingly the two top WC3 teams were defeated last night when MeetYourMakers faced Gravitas Gaming and SK-Gaming faced mortal Team work.

MYM looked good when Susiria got the first two kills in the clan war, things started getting worse when HoT came in for GG and took out Storm and Susiria, but falling to Grubby. Grubby however lost to TitaN, the Russian Nightelf, and who also managed to defeat Moon! Yes! He defeated Moon! Replays and details of that match here.

Gravitas Gaming however missed another one of their stars in Xyligan, and their manager provides an explaination of things in a small post match debrief to GosuGamers.net

SK-Gaming looked good after the recent win over MYM in WC3L clanwar and Lyn winning the EMC competition, but mTw.Protois was able to take all of the SK team out when his team mate hanf lost to ReMinD. GG.net has made a complete meal of it in their match report. The replays of that clanwar can be found here.

Replay Analysis - MYM]Grubby vs mouz.ToD

Posted by Rafey on March 10th, 2008

Hello people! Today I bring to you a review of a game played just a few days back between former team mates, and now rivals, Grubby and ToD. This game took place at the Extreme Masters finals in the first round of the upper bracket.

Grubby, also known as the King of Orcs hails from the Netherlands and plays for team Meet Your Makers.  ToD on the other hand is a French Human player representing team mousesports. Both of them are considered top world class players and have a bunch of notable accomplishments.

WC3L PD7: SK 4-1 srs, BeT 3-2 Wicked

Posted by zEro on March 10th, 2008

SK-Gaming keep their record good in the WarCraft 3 League by winning over Serious Gaming (srs) 4-1. ReMinD however managed to lose his match 2-1 to srs.SonKiE which is a disappointment for me, again.

Beijing E-Sports Team (BeT) won over Wicked 3-2, where WinNers, Who, and and Check were the three winners for them.

Mass postpones saw three of the games left in the mTw vs MYM WC3L PD 7 clash due to players leaving for LAN tournaments and mismanagement at the WC3L side. Moon and Susiria have already won their matches for MYM.

Details and replays over at ESL website.

mouzSports and Fnatic win CS1.6 while Lyn and HoT win WC3

Posted by zEro on March 10th, 2008

The hot technology extravaganza being held at Hanover, Germany has come to an end and with it a lot of tournaments have also come to an end that were going on at the premises of CeBIT 2008.

Samsung European Championship was being hosted by the organization behind World Cyber Games and Samsung, and Extreme Masters Season 2 Finals were being hosted by E-Sports League of Europe and Intel.

The gaming gala saw many gaming celebrities amongst many like Grubby, Lyn, HoT, ToD for WarCraft 3, and mouzSports, SK-Gaming, MYM-Gaming and Fnatic for Counter-Strike 1.6 tournaments.

sk-lyn-emc.jpgWith so much talent at show it was expected that there would be upsets and there might be new champions.

As it happened, SK.Lyn won Extreme Masters (EMc) WarCraft 3 beating mouz.ToD and GravitasGaming.HoT won the Samsung European Championship (SEC) WarCraft 3 by beating the likes of mouz.SaSe and mouz.ToD.

gghot-sec.jpgHot however crashed out of the EM Tourney, while Yoan ‘ToD’ Merlo from France had a strong showing in both the competitions and managed to stand second in one and third in the other (How the hell does he do it?!).

SK.Lyn has considered a favorite for the EMC, amongst many others which included HoT, ToD and MYM]Grubby. Lyn met ToD in the final and defeated him with an aggressive playstyle.

fnatic-ins.jpgmouz-cs-emc.jpgOn the Counter-Strike 1.6 side, mouzSports won over e-STRO 16-8 to clinch the 1st spot and prize money of $50,000 at the EMC. Fnatic won over MYM Gaming 16-4 in the final match of the Grand Final to win the SEC title.

WC3L: Playday 6 has WE beating MYM!

Posted by zEro on March 4th, 2008

I wasn’t going to expect MYM to lose a single clan war, but as it seems they are not really good in the management department. World Elite took them down [3:2] yesterday when the NGL-One winners played with Grubby, Moon, Susiria and Lucifer. All of whom lost their 1v1 matches expect Moon winning [2:0] over Like.

Sky met Grubby on Gnoll Wood and with an Mountain King first strat on Echo Isles, defeated him two matches straight to take the ‘derby’ match [2:0]. A great deal of rivalry exists between them since the days of WCG when he was able to dethrone Grubby as the WCG champion.

Rafey, one of our resident gosus on gamerpk forums, had this insight to add:

The matchups turned out for WE just as they predicted. They knew MYM would put grubby on GW and moon on EI. That is why they put sky on GW (Grubby never beats sky) and Like on EI (so that moon does not face sky/infi and is kind of wasted). The only thing they did not know was whether MYM would play Shy or Susiria. MYM did a good job benching Focus, since there was only one orc map, GW, and they preferred Grubby over Focus. I guess WE won the mind game Very Happy. The only thing that surprises me is that TeD beat Susiria o:

AWL Euro Qualifiers: A Story Massive No-Shows!?

Posted by zEro on March 2nd, 2008

You’d be surprised to note that big names like RotterdaM, ToD, Xyligan did not show up at the Afreeeca WarCraft League European qualifiers. Season 3 of AWL was having it’s European qualifiers to help expand the qualifiers, but a lot of the groups were left in the limbo as there was a massive no-show at the day of the qualifiers.

However, the wiser gamers took the full benefit of the opportunity to play for an Asian league, and names like Grubby, TeRRoR, miou, Rob, FuRy, and LiiL.DC qualified.

MYM reports that the spots vacated by ToD, XyLigan and RotterdaM have now being filled through a pre-qualifier. In a post qualification match interview to MYM gaming, srs.SonKiE complained that the Nightelf race needs nerfing. Catch all the replays and scores here.

This tournament was hosted by MYM Gaming.
