GTA4 will take about 100 hours to finish!

Posted by atof on March 5th, 2008

Rockstar, the creators of the GTA series have told Videogamer that the latest installment in the GTA series, the GTA 4, will take around 100hours to complete. Grand Theft Auto 4, Liberty city, who’s Official Website was announced only recently, is one of the most anticipated games of the Year 2008, with a lot of fan following, who (including me :D) keeping a close eye on every bit of information that they release.

Also the spokesperson from Rockstar gave an insight on one of the new features of the game, GTA 4’s main character, Niko Bellic phone. The phone is used to call computer-controlled characters, arrange drinking sessions, sort out dates and call in jobs around the city. It’ll also be the portal through which players will access GTA 4’s multiplayer, on which there is currently little info.

Massively Multiplayer Call Of Duty in the pipeline ?!

Posted by atof on March 5th, 2008

It seems that Activision wants to compete in the Million Dollar Market of MMO’s such as Warcraft! And the game that they want to explore is the Game of the Year: Call Of Duty! Read on for more from Kotaku:

“The head cheese at Activision, Bobby Kotick, recently made headlines for his assertion that, in order to compete properly with World of Warcraft, publishers may need to invest nearly a billion dollars in such a venture. Fortunately for Kotick and crew, they now have access to the big brains at Blizzard and Vivendi, a group of folks who know quite a bit about the MMO business. How then, can Activision exploit its biggest earners into even bigger financial monsters?

No Demo for GTA4

Posted by atof on February 29th, 2008

Rockstar have announced that there will be no official DEMO for the new installment in the GTA series, GTA4.

A Rockstar rep said that a demo “isn’t worth the time and effort”.

When asked if there will be a demo Rockstar replied: “I’m sure there won’t be. If there was we would have talked about it. With a game like this the guys at Rockstar North will want to spend every minute making the game look great. Most people know the concept of GTA anyway. I don’t know that the demo is worth the time and effort.”

He added: “Also much of GTA 4 is the driving around and we wouldn’t be able to give out the whole city. We would have to give away half the game for free. People would think Liberty City is a tiny city. You run into problems.”

Personally speaking, i don’t care whether there is a demo, just the full release of the game will definitely be worth it, especially after their outstanding job in GTA San Andreas.

Epic Shows off Unreal Engine 3 at GDC

Posted by atof on February 26th, 2008

At Microsoft’s GDC (Game Developers Conference) keynote, Epic technical director and CEO Tim Sweeney showed off the updated Unreal Engine 3 in a graphics buzzword-filled presentation. The new engine will power the upcoming Gears of War 2 and promises great things like hundreds of bad guys on the screen, dynamic shadows and better character lighting.

In the video following the link, you can also see more realistic water rendering as characters shoot and jump into puddles and pools. Tim got the crowd laughing when started shooting a huge cube of meat to demonstrate the new elastic and viscous object properties

Hasbro Signs Monopoly Movie?!

Posted by atof on February 26th, 2008

monoply.JPGYes, remember the good old times, when we used to gather around a Monopoly board, and play hours on end. Well, Hasbro and Universal pictures today announced the formation of a six-year strategic partnership to produce movies based on the toy company’s most popular brands. You know what? Just read it yourself. It’s pretty short.

Hasbro Inc. (HAS) and Universal Pictures formed a six-year strategic partnership to produce at least four motion pictures based on brands such as Monopoly, Candy Land, Ouija, Battleship, Magic, the Gathering and Stretch Armstrong.

So, what should we expect? I have no idea… but it better be good, considering that these classics should not be spoiled, with a bad movie attached with their legacy.
Oh, and by the way, Monopoly is now also available on PC! Yep, its pretty cool and retro, with Animated moves and stuff. Though it only boasts a single player mode, it still is a good time killer in office :D

After Yahoo, Microsoft To Buy Out Epic ?!

Posted by atof on February 20th, 2008

UTWith an attempt to buy Yahoo seemingly thwarted, is Microsoft looking at yet another acquisition in Epic Games? That’s the word from GamePro editor Travis Moses, who writes in the latest issue of the mag that “Microsoft will buy Epic Epic and Microsoft are practically joined at the hip already. Microsoft’s game publisher division paid Epic millios of dollars to develop the award-winning “Gears of War” in November of 2006 for the Xbox 360 platform.

Gears won multiple awards and sold several million copies. The online version of the game remains among the most popular on the Xbox Live network.

Microsoft + Nvidia + AMD + Intel = Wow for gamers!

Posted by atof on February 20th, 2008

allies.JPGThe PC Gaming Alliance is real. It was just announced at GDC, and comprises not only the rumoured Intel, Nvidia, AMD/ATi and Microsoft (along with Alienware, Dell, ACER and Gateway), but publishing giants Epic and Activision as well. Intel’s Randy Stude will be heading up the group, which rather than making things like official stickers, box labels and slogans will instead be working to provide the platform with a unified “voice”:

One of our main major objectives is to provide one voice on PC gaming market. There’s no one source that says ‘hey this is where the PC market is going’. Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft are always calling their market share - we’re going to call our market through this group.

Sounds like a truly-grass-roots move. And it’s got all the big hardware names, and two of the biggest software names (remember, Acti includes Blizzard now), onboard. Seems reports of the death of PC gaming have been greatly exaggerated!
