Overheated Hard drive fix: Freeze that Hard drive!
My hard drive is 7 years old and I am still using it today, albeit as a back to my newer master hard drives. I have experienced some issue like overheated hard drive when I used it for longer spans as my main hard drive. This is a common problem faced by many a power user like me. One on expensive solution that does not involve any cash I tried was…
Freeze! That Hard drive: Hard drives are usually the most used component of the computer. At home, we don’t realize that we are using HDD even when nothing is happening. HDD Heatup is a common problem that further causes movable components to fail.
One quick fix for an over heated Hard drive that fails to respond is freezing. Unplug your Hard drive and put it in the freezer. Preferably in an airtight container. Let it sit there for a few hours for everything to cool down, and contract. Take it out and let it thaw, literally!
This lets the Hard drive components expand and reposition themselves into their factory configuration. This would at least make the HDD work for a few hours (TRIED AND TESTED!) allowing you to retrieve important data in this short window period.
The only risk you are taking is putting it into the freezer. That Hard drive is already a goner, what have you got to lose?

thnx for the tip! I will try this.

If you fill the container with a high heat transfer fluid like H20 (ask at any big supplier) and let it completely freeze, then take it out put in in a large glass and ad some cola this will work just as well (as long as when your drinking the really cold cola you go to Amazon and buy a new HDD!)

Good question there Umer.
1. You don’t unplug any electrical component until it is completely disconnected from the power supply.
2. You do not touch any component from which smoke seems to be coming out. If you smell something is burnt then wait for an hour or two to let things cool down. It’s is advisable to use a thick cloth, or iron smith’s gloves to cause less harm.
Don’t be afraid to have someone watch over you especially if you are a minor. Best of luck for the rest
