PGS Counter Strike team to sign out on a high!

One of the more successful teams in the last two yeas in the Counter Strike community had decided to permanently call it a day! It is sad that Pentagram S from Poland will be discontinuing their Polish Counter Strike division for reasons revealed by team head and manager Darky.

PGS.CS won the WCG ‘06, the Extreme Masters ‘07 and the ESWC ‘07. Those are some huge name making events that teams try winning with all their efforts, and it gets seriously hard up there to win.

This entire squad has now been signed by MYM.poland, and as Darky put it, the CS div and the management were at bitter terms after some contract violations by the players. Petty violations like not appearing for an interview, or not enthusiastically promoting themselves in the media. In a question he replied,

What exactly did the management not like?

To be brief, the complete lack of will to promote themselves and the entire team in the media. There cannot be a situation where a player receives interview questions for a magazine and does not give answers in spite of reminders and the fact that their contracts say that they should give interviews.

I don’t mean a delay of a couple of days, or even weeks.

An article on SK summarizes the situation.

PGS Gaming originated as a Counter-Strike and Warcraft 3 team in 2004 under the name Pentagram ConneXion. It owes much of its organizational success to the success of its flagship Counter-Strike team, especially after their winning performance at the World Cyber Games in 2006. PGS won several events afterwards and received the Team of the Year eSports Award. Several weeks ago the CS players were released from the team and joined Meet Your Makers.

The decision to forgo CS may come from the fact that it would be difficult to build a new team of Polish players that would be able to emulate at least some of the success of the previous squad. The other reasons are that PGS’s main focus is the Polish e-sports market where they have the strongest squads in several games.

PGS Gaming currently has teams for Warcraft 3, FIFA 08, Call of Duty 4 and Need For Speed.

gamerpk learns that their CS div will be replaced by a COD4 div. All the best to the players and the teams.

Really sad indeed to read this. Too bad things like this happens to such a great team in Counter Strike.
